Program:
13:00-13:05 Welcome
Jan Gorodkin, University of Copenhagen.
13:05-13:50 Avalanche probing in High-throughput sequencing data
Steve Hofmann, LIFE Research Center and Interdisciplinary Center for
Bioinformatics, University of Leipzig.
High-throughput sequencing (HTS) analysis for the first time offers to possibility to quickly investigate whole genomes and transcriptomes in an essentially unbiased way. However, on the other side of the sequencer, scientists are flooded with terabytes of sequence data rising the need for efficient and fast ways to analyze it. Here, some interesting examples of HTS-data and strategies for analysis will be reviewed. A special focus will be on mapping, splice-site detection and transcription start site prediction.
13:50-14:10 Break
14:10-14:55 How to assess (non)coding potential?
Sven Findeiss, Department of Computer Science and Interdisciplinary Center for Bioinformatics, University of Leipzig
Independent of species and sequences which are analyzed, researchers working in comparative genomics always have to face the same old question: Does my new sequence have any function? In fact, the assessment of potentially coding and noncoding regions still is a pressing practical problem. Therefore, two in silico methods and their broad field of application are presented.
